I am a math teacher and an emacs user on linux for just over 25 years now. I use emacs every day to create teaching ressources and bookmarks. I also have children in their teens who need to use computers for their school activities (note-taking, presentations, homework, etc.)
At school, the Office suite is mainly used. This situation saddens me for several reasons:
-
The following tools are limited in their ability to produce non-temporary documents;
-
We often hear speeches emphasizing the significance of utilizing open-source
software, yet schools typically instruct students using proprietary applications;
- I believe missing out on the capabilities of open-source software – which has
proven its worth for me – is a disadvantage.
- emacs is fun! 😉
This summer, I embarked on the endeavor of creating an Advent calendar for my children using a repository on framagit. This initiative offers daily opportunities to learn efficient text editing techniques with Emacs, as well as exploring Org-Mode, a valuable tool for academic pursuits at both high school and university levels.
Once finished, I thought this calendar could interest others. This blog materializes my intention to share and give back (a little) to the community of emacs users what I have received.
See you on December the 1st.
